Honorary Member

So, this is a lame post considering how long it has been since I posted anything. I am leaving in an hour to go to Bakersfield to visit with my "other knitting group" that I became an honorary member of last year at WWKIPD. They are having their first anniversary of their group and I am very excited that I was invited and am able to go.

Will try to do better at posting, but no promises. Find me on Ravelry.com as Sybina though, I log on their a lot more often.

Socks for Christmas

Wow, it has been forever since I posted on my (sadly neglected ever since Ravelry - user name Sybina) blog. I can't even begin to catch you all up on what has been going on since I last posted, but I did get a job at a large law firm and am very happy here...my husband still has not gotten a job (don't quote me on this, but he has until January to get one or I am probably going to get my own place).

In crafting news, I find myself doing almost all knitting (I have two crochet projects started at the moment but find I want to knit all the time. I am knitting a pair of socks for my grandson and a pair of socks for my granddaughter for Christmas plus I have a pair of socks for myself that I need to finish. I also have a few shawls that I have started but I think the MS3 is going to go to the frog pond...I am just not as excited about the finished look as I thought I would be (it is not symetrical, not that there is anything wrong with that) but I have a Swallowtail Shawl that I am totally in love with but can't work on again until the socks for Christmas are done. I have a lot more socks that I want to make in the future and also some new techniques that I want to learn. I also want to do a lot more (I have a lot of stuff in my queue on Ravelry) but like I said in the beginning of this paragraph, it is almost all knitting.

I will not promise anything, but I am hoping to blog a bit more than I have been (which will not be that hard, lol). Happy crafting!

WWKIP and other stuff

There was no "official event" for WWKIP Day scheduled here in good old Las Vegas so I decided to see if there was an event scheduled somewhere close to here that I could go to. I really wanted to celebrate it this year since I missed it last year. The wonderful Yarn Mavens of Bakersfield, CA (there are a few pics with me in them that the wonderful lady who organized it all took, I forgot my camera in the car where it did me a lot of good) were having one so I made the travel arrangements. I bought a couple of new shirts...this one and this one before I left and I ended up wearing the second one. We had a really good time and the Market Place where we met was perfect with a light breeze and a beautiful fountain. The Yarn Mavens are working on an afghan that will be eventually actioned off and the proceeds go to a really good cause. I got to knit part of it...there are four circular needles with stitches on them and four people knit on it at the same time. It was really fun and easier than it sounds.

On the job news, I am looking again. [Edited to take out long boring description of why I hated my new job (not the old job or the first job).]

On other crochet/knit news I am almost finished with the second baby blanket for a friend who is having twins. I am also about to turn the heel on the second of Vicki's socks. I have not been working on anything else for quite a few weeks and it is paying off in how close the FOs are (pictures of which I still need to get off my lazy butt and post for everyone). I have a lot of projects in mind to begin (most of them socks or lace related) but I think I want to finish up a few other things before I start anything new.

Here I am...did anyone miss me?

If anyone was wondering where I have been please refer to my (forever ago) previous post. Not a day has gone by since I got my invitation that I have not gone to Ravelry to see "what is happening" in the knit and crochet community. I still have a lot of work to do cataloging my stash, but I am getting there. I will try to do better at posting something now and then to let those of you who are not on Ravelry know what I am up to.

In other news, I am working on my 8th(?) HMB Comfortghan. It will be going to a lady in Tennessee who lost her husband and it is turning out very nice. I am busy working on socks for my daughter, my niece, and a my sister-in-law. I also just started the first of two baby blankets for a friend of mine who is having twins (one boy and one girl). Another project I am working on (it is a wonder I get anything finished) is a blanket for a very dear friend to give to her son, it is Cowboys themed in the colors and I think it will turn out nicely when it is done.

In other, other news, after working for the same law firm for 8 years (to the day) I was laid off the end of last year because the law firm had become so small that they had to close. Some of you may know how much I cared for my boss and not a single day has gone by that I don't miss him terribly. On a brighter note, two weeks after I got laid off, I got a new job at a real estate office working for a very nice man who I have known for almost 8 years because he is a friend/client of my former boss and so I am still in contact with my former boss occasionally. I really, really like my job but I am still looking to get back into the legal field.

And speaking of employment related issues, the company my husband had been working for went bankrupt in October of last year (5 months ago) and he still has not found a job...of course, I think you have to be looking for a job in order to find one unless you are very, very lucky. I actually had done all the footwork a few months back and got him a job, but then he was scheduled to take a test for a really good State Job and (I could kick myself here) we decided for him to not go to that job but instead hope to get the state job. As you can see, he has not gotten it yet and I don't know if he will even though he scored really high on the test. I have ranted to quite a few of my friends, but I have decided that I am done with being "patient and understanding" and it is time for him to GET A JOB!

Well, that is it for now.

Ravelry!

I signed up for Ravelry quite a while ago (when I found out about it) and now I am part of a huge and wonderful knit and crochet community. If you are already on Ravelry and want to find me, my Ravelry name is Sybina. I am having a lot of fun and if you haven't signed up for it (and you knit and/or crochet) you really should.

Knitting at Crochet Group

Last night at crochet group, I finished my first pair of socks and they fit really well. I have "stocked up" on sock yarn (no, really, I have a LOT of sock yarn...just ask Mindy and as soon as I get my Ravelry invite I will have pics there) and I am (almost) ready to dedicate myself to knitting more of these wonderful little feet warmers - I just need to finish a couple more crocheted items and then I will be off and running - with new socks, hehe. Also last night, I got to see Margie (a most awesome human being) who has been busy lately being a very good professional football player. We were all treated with a special "show and tell" by Mindy's friend Dale. She had three crocheted items with her, two that her mother made and one that her grandmother made. They were all stunning, but the last one that she showed us that her grandmother made took my breath away. I wish I had my camera, but I am not as organized as I would like to be.

Long time no see

Let's see, since I last blogged I went on a trip to LA with my niece, Becky. We went and saw the play Zanna Don't and it was even better than we expected it to be. The next day we went to the Santa Monica Beach and we both ended up sunburned but had a great time anyways. They also have a Harry Potter store that we went to and loved. My neice got a little tank top and on the front it says "I solemly swear I am up to no good" and the back says "Mischief managed".

I also got some new yarn from Sock Pixie in Lavender Garden, Raspberry Cheesecake and Royal. They are even prettier than I imagined they would be. I also got a skein of Lunasea from Blue Moon Fiber Arts. I need to finish my daughter's blanket of which I only have 18 more squares to go and then I can start knitting more on my socks and actually finish one whole pair. My friend Mindy is way ahead of me on finished socks and I need to attempt to keep up.
